Explore the Seas

The GPSMAP 541s comes ready to go with preloaded U.S. coastal area map data. For areas outside the U.S., the GPSMAP 541s has a worldwide basemap with satellite images in place of more traditional maps. The GPSMAP 541s also comes standard with a high-sensitivity GPS receiver for superior satellite tracking and quicker acquisition times. In addition, the GPSMAP 541s can receive U.S. graphical weather data via optional GXM 51 satellite receiver/antenna. And with an SD card slot, it's easy to add additional maps without connecting to a computer.

Sonar Transducer Included

The GPSMAP 541s comes with a powerful dual-frequency transducer that clearly illustrates depth contours, fish targets and structures whether you're fishing in freshwater or off the coast. The GPSMAP 541s and GPSMAP 541s are also NMEA 2000-certified for easy connectivity with sensors, instruments and future marine offerings.

Add Extras with BlueChart g2 Vision

With the optional BlueChart g2 Vision SD card, you can add a whole new dimension of exceptional features to your chartplotter.

  • MarinerEye view and FishEye view provide you a 3-dimensional perspective of map information, both above and below the waterline.
  • High-resolution satellite images and aerial photographs help you orient yourself in unfamiliar areas.
  • Auto Guidance technology searches through all relevant charts to create a route you can actually follow--one that avoids obstacles, shallow water, buoys and other obstructions.
XM WX Weather & Radio Ready

Add Garmin's GXM 51, powered by the GPSMAP's NMEA bus, and you can deliver U.S. graphical weather data directly to your compatible Garmin chartplotter. Plus, with a subscription, you can even use the GXM 51 to enjoy over 170 channels of quality audio entertainment via XM Satellite Radio.

2Step Backwards from older Garmin Chart Plotters
By T. Saam
I owned an older Garmin 168s, and I've used numerous other Garmin marine devices. I'm very frustrated with the 541 because it can no longer provide some very simple, but important information on a single screen. In previous versions, a user could select the number of data fields, size of data fields, and content of data fields. The data bars on the chart and compass screens of the 541 are no longer freely selectable. Rather, the data bar information is grouped into pre-programmed categories with very limited select-ability. As a sailor, I need three simple things on an uncluttered chart view: VMG, bearing to next, and depth. It's unavailable with the current 541s software, but supported on many earlier versions of Garmin marine products. Sure, the 541 can display all kinds of fancy things from external devices, but simple GPS functions are now thrown aside with neglect. I see it as a step backwards, and I sure hope Garmin invests in a software upgrade to fix the bugs!

Another gripe is that Garmin has removed the "quit" button. That vastly increases the number of button pushes needed to navigate the screens, and greatly increases the amount of time fiddling. Unfortunately, a new button can't be fixed with a software upgrade.

I don't know if it's going to be an issue, but the manual doesn't say anything about how one would update the base maps. I speculate that Garmin wants users to buy the enhanced map products to keep the device up to date. I'm reminded that when my 168s died, Garmin said it's not possible to transfer the map products that I purchased for the 168s to another (used) 168s...my investment in maps was lost. I sure hope this won't be a repeat of that business model!

I'd give this thing 1 star because it does basically work, but I will say Garmin has improved the receiver sensitivity and device speed over my older 168s. I suppose they deserve a second star for that...

5Absolutly fantastic!!!
By John Romano
The best I have ever owned and I have owned not less than 4 other sonar units (Humingbird). The detail and sensativity are
unparalleled. The preloaded maps are way more than I expected for accuracy and detail. The display is sharp and smooth as
it charts a course, I will never use any other brand again and I would highly recomend this unit to anyone thinking of buying a
combonation sonar / GPS for their boat as I really do love it!

5Compact but Powerful!
By Sumo
I was looking for a GPS Chartplotter with a fishfinder and this compact unit works out great for my center console boat. It is easy to set up and has worked perfect so far.
